Ten Westerville City Schools employees were honored for their contributions to students, dedication to their schools and their commitment to district values as part of the A+ Award recognition at Monday’s school board meeting.
April Hynes, a fifth-grade teacher at Mark Twain Elementary; Scotti Smith, a third-grade teacher at McVay Elementary; and Peter Wegley, a sixth-grade teacher at Walnut Springs Middle School, have been honored as the Westerville Education Foundation’s November Teachers of the Month.
National School Psychology Week, which runs from Nov. 11 to Nov. 15, celebrates the contributions of school psychologists and the role they play in schools and communities. It is also an annual opportunity to recognize school psychologists' work to help children thrive in school, at home and in life.
Seven Westerville City School District educators and staff have been awarded grants totaling $3,399 from The Bette Marschall Memorial Education Fund of The Columbus Foundation.
Starting Monday, schools throughout the district are rolling out various activities and events to build community and foster a sense of belonging in honor of Start with Hello Week.
Created by the Sandy Hook Promise organization, Start with Hello Week runs Sept. 16-20 and is focused on helping students build empathy, healthy relationships and social awareness through social-emotional lessons and activities.
Current and former students, staff and families paid tribute to Mark Twain Elementary during the school’s 50th anniversary celebration on Thursday.
